Summer Time Fun
Hello again, only me. Thought I would let you in on what I've been up to recently. I was given the honour of opening EST Ivybridge 1st Summer Fair, alongside the Mayor of Ivybridge. Staff had been preparing for months, so I knew this was going to be a big day for us all. I stood in the barn and watched over the wall as the centre was transformed. The other donkeys just carried on with their normal business, but I was fascinated to see what people were doing; I could see lots of colourful bunting, bouncy castles and could hear music over the speakers. I could tell that opening time was near as more and more people started walking through the gates.
The grooms came over to fit my leather bridle, and walked me over to meet the Mayor who was waiting to cut the ribbon. A crowd gathered as the green ribbon was stretched out across the front doors as the Mayor gave a speech. We stood side by side as he cut the ribbon, announcing the fair "OPEN".
Photographers from The Herald were taking lots of pictures – so I snatched the ribbon as it fell to the floor to ensure I definitely had my moment! Bob Venn, our centre principal, thanked us all and presented the Lady Mayoress with a bouquet of flowers – which were really tasty.
The fair was a great success. Hundreds of people turned up to see us, and all had a great time. There were games, stalls, a BBQ and lots of demonstrations in the arena. Pedro and I lent a hoof to offer cart rides to the children – which was a big hit, our queue was far longer than that of the BBQ even! It was hard work I must say, but still I can't wait for it to happen all over again next year.
Since the fair, I have spent the rest of the summer just kicking back and being a donkey. We've all had a few weeks off to enjoy the summer grazing and make the most of the sunshine (the little that we've had!). I've had fun playing with the other donkeys in the yard; kicking around a football and tug-of-war with welly boots. Also, when the grooms stop for lunch I have been hanging around the picnic tables with them enjoying their company – and left overs! On the whole, it has been a great summer.
Bye for now,
