Donkey to attend Palm Sunday Service in Leeds
A donkey from a Leeds-based children's riding centre will be leading the Palm Sunday service procession for Leeds Parish Church this weekend from 10.45am.
19-year old Eeyore, from The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys (EST) in Eccup, will lead the Palm Sunday procession from The Light shopping centre through the city to the church.
Eeyore is one of 19 donkeys currently cared for by the EST charity and helps provide riding therapy sessions to children with special needs and disabilities.
Cathryn Williams, who runs EST Leeds, says: "Eeyore has a beautiful cross on his back, making him an ideal donkey to help with Leeds Parish Church’s Palm Sunday service. He has a lovely temperament and enjoys human contact; he is a very confident donkey and will be at ease with the task required of him.
"It's a wonderful opportunity for us to contribute and the donkeys really do help to make a tactile link to the biblical Easter story. We support our local churches and those connected to our volunteers who give their time and support so generously."
Anyone interested in visiting or supporting the centre can do so by calling 0113 261 9249 or contacting EST Leeds.
