Donkey riding charity thanks its volunteers
A donkey-riding therapy charity for children with special needs based in Abbey Hey will be thanking its volunteers on Tuesday 30th June from 7pm with a special BBQ and quiz night.
The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys (EST) is holding the event slightly later than planned to mark to mark National Volunteer Week which is held annually from 1st – 7th June 2009.
Debbie Coombes, who runs the centre says: “This really is a lovely opportunity to thank our wonderful team of volunteers without whom we could not operate. Volunteers give their time to help with the many tasks involved in preparing the donkeys for riding, assisting with the riding therapy and working with the children.
“Volunteers will also be presented with a certificate of achievement, there will also be mini makeovers from the Body Shop for the ladies and we will be seeing who can put together a bridle in the fastest time - it will be really good fun.
“Unfortunately we have been so busy that we have not been able to mark the event till now – I am sure it will be a great success.”
The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys provides valuable riding therapy to 150 children with special needs at its centre in Abbey Hey and the surrounding area each week. It receives no government aid and relies entirely on donations to carry out its work.
