Little Vijay's special visit
Little Vijay had a very special trip to make on 16th December 2009. We loaded him up into our 'donkey van' and travelled to a lovely place called Little Bridge Children's Hospice in North Devon. They were holding their own carol service and had asked for a gentle donkey to be part of the service. As both of our specially trained small 'Outreach' donkeys were already busy visiting residential homes, we needed a star donkey who could step in at the last minute and carry out this very important visit. Luckily we knew just the right one…
As we pulled up outside the hospice, Vijay was very keen to go in and meet the children and their families. He waited quietly in the Reception area until we heard our cue of 'Little Donkey' and then it was time to go in. The little brother of a poorly girl rode Vijay into the sitting room where everyone was eager to meet him.
During the service we sang along to the carols and Vijay just took in the festive atmosphere, standing beautifully throughout. At the end of the service, he quietly went around meeting the children. He was very popular and many people were especially excited as he was also their very own Adoption Donkey! Vijay then had some yummy carrots and apples and we headed homeward bound.
He certainly brought joy to many of the children's and parents' faces and helped create a magical evening to remember. Both Little Vijay and Little Bridge had enjoyed a very special visit!
