Runners still have time to sign up to take part in the Edinburgh marathon for EST

The cloud of volcanic ash currently hovering over Britain has meant that, for some, dreams of completing marathons in locations such as Paris, Boston and Vienna last weekend had to be cancelled due to the ‘no-fly’ zone.

EST still has two places available for the May 2010 Edinburgh Marathon which takes place on Sunday 23rd May 2010. The charity is appealing for local runners who have been left all trained up with nowhere to run to sign up and take part on their behalf.

To take part, those interested must be willing to take on the challenge of raising the minimum sponsorship of £500; a great help to the charity which makes no charge to the children who attend its five UK centres.

Tina Viksna, fundraising co-ordinator for EST, says: “For those who have found themselves unable to take part in marathons due to the flight restrictions, there’s still time to sign up to take part in the Edinburgh marathon on behalf of our charity, benefiting over 750 children each week who take part in donkey riding therapy across the UK.”

“£500 is a great deal of money, but we can help you achieve your target with fundraising support and publicity. You will also have a personal contact here at The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust to help you every step of the way.”
