Five of the seven strong team preparing for the 10k run!

A team of staff from our donkey-riding therapy centre in Eccup have signed up to take part in the Jane Tomlinson’s Leeds 10k charity run on Sunday 4th July and have today launched their JustGiving website to invite people to donate.

The team are now on a mission to raise funds for our Leeds Centre with a web appeal and by gathering sponsors. The centre helps over 170 local special needs children every week by providing donkey riding therapy and other facilities.

Cathryn Williams, manager of the EST Centre at Eccup, says: “We will be running to raise funds for our EST centre which helps children with special needs and disabilities; we don’t charge a penny to the parents, schools or hospices whose children attend the centre.

“The children benefit hugely from the act of riding and we often see milestones achieved in the arena, such as severely disabled children who learn balance or those with speech problems who speak their very first words.”

The official team photo, showing Cathyrn Williams (Centre Manager), Caroline Armstrong (Centre Coordinator), Lynne Aldridge (Cook), Karen Mowbray (Groom), Kirsty Christmas (Riding Instructor), was taken on Friday to help launch their dedicated webpage on the online charity fundraising platform JustGiving. There are also two other members of the team who will be taking part - Keith Salter (Handyman/Driver) and Sarah Beer (Supporter).

Team members have also pledged a personal donation to the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, which was established by the late Jane Tomlinson CBE to raise funds for children's and cancer charities.
