EST Sidmouth/Donkey Summer Fair

EST Sidmouth/Donkey Summer Fair

With the sun shining, a clear blue sky and a nice cool breeze, we couldn’t have wished for better weather to help make our Summer Fair on Sunday 15th August 2010 such a success. Thousands of visitors roamed the grounds of the Sanctuary, wondering around all of the stalls, taking part in different games, enjoying the entertainment and watching the variety of displays throughout the day.

In the Slade Centre, stall holders, volunteers and members of staff manned a selection of fancy good, bric-a-brac, game, book and cake stalls, not forgetting our silent auction stand which had lots of exciting items for visitors to bid on too.

At 11.30am, in the main arena, we held our award ceremony and Gymkhana display. Visitors clapped and cheered as the children were presented with their awards and competed against each other in a series of fun riding games.
Over lunch time, hundreds of visitors enjoyed freshly cooked burgers and hot dogs from the BBQ tent whilst teas, coffees and cakes flew out of the Slade Centre kitchen.

Between 1pm - 3pm children were able to enjoy donkey cart rides in one of the donkey paddocks near the main drive.
During the afternoon our very own Parents and Friends Association (PFA) held a family fun dog show and doggy tombola, filled with treats, in one of our fields.

At 3pm, the winners of our EST grand raffle were drawn in the main arena and after a busy day, at around 4pm, the last of the visitors browsed around the remaining stalls before making their way home.

All in all, it was a brilliant day, filled with lots of fun and excitement. The final amount raised is expected to be around £29,000, which is a fantastic result for both the Elisabeth Svendsen Trust and the Donkey Sanctuary, especially in the current economic climate.

EST Sidmouth would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that helped and supported this year’s Summer Fair. It was brilliant to have so many volunteers, stall holders and members of staff to help on the day, as well as all those that helped towards the event by baking cakes and providing items for our stalls. We really wouldn’t be able to do it without everyone’s continued support, thank you.
