Sidmouth
Nearly half way there...!
Posted 6th February 2012 by Jennie JeppersonAfter another amazing week I am now looking forward to running 'The Virgin London Marathon' more than ever and can't wait until race day in 11 weeks' time. By all means I still have a long way to go, but I finally feel like the training and hard work is starting to pay off and this is beginning to reflect in the amount of time I spend on my feet and the mileage I do.
12 weeks and counting...
Posted 30th January 2012 by Jennie JeppersonWow, what a week... time seems to be flying by so quickly that April will be here before I know it!
Well where do I start? This past week really has been amazing. I've managed my longest run to date and the support I have received from people so far has been overwhelming. So far I have raised a massive £359 for EST and the sponsorship keeps trickling in, which is fantastic. Everyone has been so kind and generous; I can't thank you all enough.
"Lacing up" for the London Marathon
Posted 25th January 2012 by Jennie JeppersonOn Sunday 22nd April I will be taking part in the Virgin London Marathon 2012 to raise funds for riding therapy sessions for children with special needs at The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys (EST).
Busby was a very special little gentleman
It is with deep regret that we announce that our dear adoption donkey Busby had to be put to sleep on 21st December 2011 following a short period of ill-health.
Busby was a local boy, originally from Devon, before being relinquished to the Sanctuary 18 years ago. He spent some time in a foster home and on The Donkey Sanctuary farms, but really found his calling when he joined the Slade Centre’s team of riding therapy donkeys in 2001.
With his distinctive dark brown coat and lovely kind nature, Busby quickly became a firm favourite with staff and children alike. Even the youngest or most nervous rider was helped to overcome their fears as Busby would stand quietly and patiently whilst they stroked his velvety fur, until they were reassured that it was safe to ride on his back. Although himself a shy and initially timid donkey, Busby also became more confident and enjoyed the love and attention he received.
EST Sidmouth Charity Summer Ball
In August, EST Sidmouth held its first ever Charity Summer Ball in order to raise funds for the Centre’s Sensory Trail Ride project. Held in the events marquee in the Adoption paddock, staff and volunteers spent the day transforming the marquee into a gorgeous venue for he evening.
As the start of the evening approached and the final touches were being made, staff were delighted to see the sun burst through the clouds for the first time all day, just in time for the guests’ arrival.
EST Sidmouth need your help with the Co-Op Big Community Vote 2011
Our EST Centre here in Sidmouth are currently shortlisted for a grant of £2000. If we were lucky enough to win the grant we would like to provide a soft play area especially for the children that are in wheelchairs. This area would enable them to come out of their wheelchairs into a safe and comfortable area whilst also enjoying the sensory aspects.
All you need to do is be a member of the co-operative (if you are not then it won’t take long to join!).
